Premiere database marketing company that helped newspapers analyze subscription retention and create multi-channel strategies that organized newspapers geographically and demographically, using TMC and direct mail campaign GIS data to target specific segments. We used some of the first ETL tools and built some of the first SaaS platforms (although they didn't have that name back then). Unfortunately, we also ran out of funding during the dot-com boom and bust. At the time, I was also flying my kids to the Midwest to spend time with their mother (I was a single father), so I decided to look for work there.
I ended up at a local newspaper and started their direct mail business. Despite our department winning awards for the fastest and most profitable initiative in the newspaper, we were met with Email Data quite a few shortcomings by the management of the newspaper. Luckily, they got tired of me calling them dinosaurs and showed me the door. As fate would have it, within a few days, I was ashore. I helped a friend implement email marketing (even in the beginning) for an NFL franchise. When I found out what I was doing at ESP, I had the most incredible job interview ever.
I was handed a pile of job descriptions and asked which one I wanted. I chose to become an integration consultant and spent the next couple of years traveling the world helping clients integrate and automate their email marketing platforms with virtually every system under the sun. That company ended up being sold for billions of dollars (and I got a laptop), and I went on to help startups market, automate, and scale their businesses. I had so much success that I started my own consulting business. Shortly after launching, I went on an international trip with another colleague, and we helped conduct technological due diligence for an investment company.
